Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I enter the race on the day?
A. Yes you can enter on the day although as we are limited to 300 places pre-registration will guarantee that you can participate. On average we receive a third of our entries in advance. It costs an extra £1 to enter on the day (see next question).

Q. How much does it cost?
A. Entry in advance via Race Central or postal application costs £9. Registration on the day incurs an additional fee of £1 taking the cost to £10.

Q. Where do I register and/or declare on the day?
A. Penicuik High School on Carlops Road (see next question). Changing facilities and post-race refreshments are also available here.

Q. Do you have a map of the route and facilities etc?
A. We have prepared an interactive Google Map of the route. You can click on the various icons on the map to find information about key areas and locations, as well as move the map around and zoom in and out.

Q. How can I get to Penicuik?
A. Penicuik is approx 10 miles south of Edinburgh. By clicking on one of the symbols on this map and then the 'to here' link that pops up and entering your starting location you can get Google Maps supplied directions (also see next question).
For public transport there are various and frequent buses from Edinburgh to the north and (less frequently) Peebles to the south.
Try http://www.lothianbuses.co.uk/ for information about buses from Edinburgh; the 37/47 runs approximately every 15 minutes and passes close to Waverley Train Station. Unfortunately Penicuik does not have a railway station (or indeed a railway!).

Q. Where can I park?
A. Parking is available in the surrounding streets (Bellman's Road, Carlops Road etc). Please do NOT park on Bog Road or in the car park of the new Penicuik Centre (swimming/leisure/library complex).

Q. Will the course be marshalled?
A. Yes, marshals will be stationed throughout the race route to ensure your safety at all times. Please adhere to any advice or instructions they issue.

Q. Will there be prizes?
A. Prizes are available for all major category winners. Medals for the first 220 finishers. Prize giving will take place in Penicuik High School.

Q. Is the race suitable for wheelchair athletes?
A. No, unfortunately not, due to the terrain.

Q. Where can I get the results?
A. You can get the results from this page which will be published as soon as we can after the race is finished.
